Canonical Ltd(http://www.ubuntu.com)에서 배포하는 우분투(Ubuntu)는 데스크톱에서 리눅스를 쉽게 사용할 수 있도록 만들어진 리눅스 배포판입니다. 데비안 GNU/리눅스를 기반으로 하고 있으며, 카노니컬 사로부터 재정적인 지원을 받고 있습니다. 우분투라는 이름은 줄루어로 공동체 의식에 바탕을 둔 인간애(humanity towards others)를 뜻하며, 일반적으로 데비안보다 빠르게 6개월 주기로 출시되고 있습니다. 데비안 GNU/리눅스에 비해서 사용자 편의성에 많은 초점을 맞추어 있고, 우분투에 쓰이는 프로그램들은 모두 자유 소프트웨어로만 이루어져 있어 리눅스의 공개 오픈 소스 개념에 충실하다고 볼 수 있습니다. 특히, 사용자에게 최신의 안정적인 운영 체제를 제공하고 있습니다. 10월 13일 릴리즈되었습니다.
이번 우분투 11.10 버전은 우분투 경험을 더욱 즐겁게 만드는 몇 가지 현명한 향상된 기능이 포함되어 있습니다. 우분투 11.10 (Oneiric Ocelot)의 커널 버전은 3.0.0-12 이며, Firefox 7.0.1 버전, LibreOffice 3.4.3 버전이 탑재되어 있습니다.
개선사항
1. New release of compiz and Unity
- A new Alt+Tab switcher.
- "Places" are renamed to "Lenses". This feature now also integrates multiple sources and advanced filtering options like ratings, range, and categories.
- The Dash has a new music lens, linked to Banshee, that searches your personal and online music collections.
- Better performance of launchers and panel, ported to GTK 3 and GTK 3-based indicator stack.
- Full support for Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and other script languages.
2. Ubuntu Software Center
The Ubuntu Software Center gives you instant access to thousands of apps. With the Ubuntu 11.10 redesign, you can see the top-rated apps, compare apps by rating and user reviews, keep track of what you’ve installed, and sync your apps between all your Ubuntu computers.
3. The launcher
It’s pretty hard to miss the launcher that sits on the left-hand side of your screen. It’s designed to make getting to your favourite tools and applications quick and easy. You can hide and reveal it, add and remove applications and bookmarks, and keep track of your open windows.
4. The dash
When you click on the Ubuntu logo in the top-left corner of the launcher, the new dash will appear. It’s another simple way to get to your shortcuts and search for other applications and programs. So you can get fast access to your email, music, pictures and much more. And you can search by type of app or file with our new filters menu.
5. Application switching
Ubuntu 11.10 gives you a really easy way to manage multiple windows and applications. You can use Alt + Tab and Alt + Grave to switch between applications or application windows. No more cramping multiple apps into a small space.
