Canonical Ltd(http://www.ubuntu.com)에서 배포하는 우분투(Ubuntu)는 데스크톱에서 리눅스를 쉽게 사용할 수 있도록 만들어진 리눅스 배포판입니다. 데비안 GNU/리눅스를 기반으로 하고 있으며, 카노니컬 사로부터 재정적인 지원을 받고 있습니다. 우분투라는 이름은 줄루어로 공동체 의식에 바탕을 둔 인간애(humanity towards others)를 뜻하며, 일반적으로 데비안보다 빠르게 6개월 주기로 출시되고 있습니다. 데비안 GNU/리눅스에 비해서 사용자 편의성에 많은 초점을 맞추어 있고, 우분투에 쓰이는 프로그램들은 모두 자유 소프트웨어로만 이루어져 있어 리눅스의 공개 오픈 소스 개념에 충실하다고 볼 수 있습니다. 특히, 사용자에게 최신의 안정적인 운영 체제를 제공하고 있습니다. 2013년 10월 9일 릴리즈되었습니다.
우분투 13.10 (Saucy Salamander)의 커널 버전은 3.11.0-12 이며, Firefox 26.0 버전, LibreOffice 4.1.3.2 버전이 탑재되어 있습니다.
개선사항
To upgrade from Ubuntu 13.04 on a desktop system:
• Open Software Sources.
• Press Alt+F2 and type in "update-manager" (without the quotes) into the command box.
• Update Manager should open up and tell you: New distribution release '13.10' is available.
• Click Upgrade and follow the on-screen instructions.
To upgrade from Ubuntu 13.04 on a server system:
• Install the update-manager-core package if it is not already installed.
• Launch the upgrade tool with the command sudo do-release-upgrade.
• Follow the on-screen instructions.
Note that the server upgrade will use GNU screen and automatically re-attach in case of dropped connection problems.
Offline upgrade options via alternate CDs are no longer offered for Ubuntu Desktop and Ubuntu Server. Please ensure you have network connectivity to one of the official mirrors or to a locally accessible mirror and follow the instructions above.
